TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

St. Joseph Cathedral
The parish was founded in 1874. The cathedral is sometimes used as a venue for concerts by the San Diego Chamber Orchestra and other classical groups.

Cortez Hill
This stunning hill is filled with some of the finest Victorian houses located within the city. As the oldest residential district within the city, many of these ornate homes were originally built by the San Diego's founders.

Balboa Park
Created for the Panama-California Exposition, this 1,200 acre park is one of the most well known parks in the United States. El Prado is considered by many to be Balboa Park's crown jewel. This beautiful park street is filled with some of the most breathtaking Spanish Moor-influenced architecture within San Diego. This area is home to the Old Globe Theater- an accurate reproduction of London’s Globe Theater. Other Balboa Park favorites are the Spreckels Organ-the largest outdoor pipe organ, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the Museum of Man- famous for their large catalog of anthropology specimens. Before you leave the park, remember to stop and smell the roses… literally! The Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden is considered to be within the top 16 rose gardens in the World.  Showcasing over a 100 different variety of roses, this memorial park is a favorite stop for weddings, couples, and tourists from all over the world.

Little Italy
A landmark sign was constructed at the main entrance to the district as a tribute to this immigrant neighborhood.  Now a vibrant scene filled with shops, restaurants, and highly desirable real estate, this area used to be the hub of the world’s tuna fishing and canning industry.

Piazza Basilone
Killed in action at the Battle of Iwo Jima, Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone is honored at this quiet memorial square. As one of "The Boys That Never Came Home”, this square pays tribute to Basilone and other military men with a fountain, sculpture, and plaques honoring the fallen.
